MARRIAGE: SUBMISSION OF THE WIFE

1.   Submission means recognition of authority.

2.  Analogy:  The Church is subject to Christ, so the wife is to be submissive to her husband.

3.  Principle stated:  1 Peter 3:1, “subjection” = upotasso

4.   One reason a woman is called the weaker vessel (1 Pt 3:7) because she has an insatiable desire for her husband (Gen 3:16)

5.  She is a responder and for this reason she CAN submit mentally and sexually to her husband.

6.  This submission is mental rather than sexual.  Sex is an expression of this submission, but first of all there must be the mental attitude.

7.  Without a mental attitude love on the part of the wife, this submission cannot exist.  However, she may go through the motions outwardly but this is not true submission, but slavery.

8.   When there is no mental attitude love, her surrender becomes slavery.

9.  If the woman is in love with her husband, she is happy to surrender her freedom to the one she loves.

10.  When this surrender is properly carried out, her relationship with her right man is of such a nature that it brings out all the beauty and charm which can be found in a woman.   True femininity surpasses all other types of beauty.

11.  Part of a woman’s inner beauty is her love for her husband.

12.  This submission includes all of the responses of the woman to the man’s love in every area of life.    The woman is a responder.
