David, the man KATA God’s own heart – part 2

 

A.   Panoramic View of David’s Life (Psa 78:70-72). 

 

            1.   From birth to thirty:  Triumph!!!!

 

                        a.    Shepherd, the teenage years of preparation.

 

                        b.    Goliath, victory over the giants of life – overcoming the kosmos.

 

                        c.   Fugitive testing years – accelerated spiritual growth. 

 

                        d.   King – the supergrace life.

 

            2.    From 30 to 70:   Tragedy and recovery.

 

                        a.   Tragedy: rejection of doctrine in his heart and the searing of his

 

conscience, Bathsheba, 2 Sam 12:1-5.

 

                        b.    Trouble, Law of reaping what you sow, Gal 6:7.

 

                        c.     Recovery, Psa 32; 51; 2 Sam 12.   

 

B.    David, a man κατὰ God’s own heart.

 

            1.   What does it mean to be a man κατὰ God’s own heart?

 

            2.    David not only illustrates the supergrace life of being a man according to God’s own heart, he also powerfully illustrates just how important it is to guard the conscience by being positive to the doctrine stored in the heart – and how easily, quickly, and deeply a believer with BD can fall into reversionism simply by ignoring and rejecting BD stored in the heart.

 

            3.   David’s heart for BD, Psalms 1; 19.

 

            4.  David’s heart for fellowship with God, Psa 23.

 

            5.   David’s heart for sanctification, Psa 23:1; 27:4. 

 

            6.  Heart of patience regarding the POG, Psalm 37.
