LIFE OF DAVID – Part 5

David, the man KATA (according to/alongside) God’s own heart, part 4

A.   David’s life can be divided into two major periods.

            1.   First thirty years: advancement into supergrace – to a life that is far beyond what he could have asked or imagined, cf. Eph 3:20.

            2.   From 30-70.

                        a.   In supergrace King David became greater and greater, 2 Sam 5:10.

                        b.   Reversionistic King David – intensive misery & trouble,  2 Sam 12:9.

                        c.    King David’s recovery, Psa 32; 51.

                        d.    King David’s return to the POG and good spiritual health.

B.    David, a man κατὰ God’s own heart, Acts 13:22.

            1.  David is called a man KATA (according to the norm and standard;  alongside) God’s own heart – not “after” God’s own heart, Cf. 1 Sam 13:14.  Acts 13:22.

            2.  The dire consequences of not understanding the Biblical meaning of “heart.”

            3.  What God looks at in each person is the heart, 1 Sam 16:7.

            4.   David’s heart of BD, Psalms 1; 19.

            5.  David’s heart of fellowship with God, Acts 2:25; Psa 16:8; Psa 89:15.

            6.   David’s heart of sanctification, Psa 23:1; 27:4, 8-9.

            7.  David’s patient heart regarding the POG and God’s timing, Psalm 37;  130:5; 27:14, 14; cf, Hosea 2:6; Micah 7:7; 1 Pt 5:5-6; Heb 6:12-15;  Eph 4:1-2; 2 Tim 4:2; 1 Thess 5:14-18; Col 1:9-11;  Isa 30:18; Isa 64:4.

            8.   David’s heart of humility,  1 Sam 17:17-19; Psa 78:70; 89:19-21; cf. Num 12:3; Mt 20:28.

            9.   David’s heart of integrity, Psa 78:72.

            10.   David’s heart had the capacity for solitude.

            11.  David’s heart had capacity for contentment in obscurity, 1 Sam 17:28.

            12.  David’s heart had capacity for contentment in monotony.

            13.   David’s heart of courage through the Lord, 1 Sam 17:33-37.

            14.   David’s faithful heart, cf. 2 Tim 2:2; 4:15-16.

            15.   David’s heart for promotion.

            16.  David’s heart had capacity for humble service, 1 Sam 17:17-19; cf. Mk 10:32-35.

            17.   David’s heart was full of faith, Psa 19:1-5; 37:3-5;  1 Sam 17:47.

            18.  David’s heart was oriented to authority.

            19.   David’s heart had spiritual strength to handle unjust suffering and parlay all suffering into maturity and greater grace blessings, Psa 23:1-5; cf. Heb 2:10; 5:8-9; 1 Pt 2:18-23; Js 1:2-4; Rom 5:3-5;

            20.  Because of consistent and persistent doctrinal (Psalm 1) and spiritual growth (Psa 16:8), David moved into supergrace (Psa 23:5; Js 4:6) where his heart (mind, volition, conscience, norms and standards, frame of reference, memory center)  became mature (ECS) and he moved into OWC (Acts 2:25; Psa 27:4) and was conformed into the image of God’s Son and thus enjoyed phenomenal happiness, blessings, and contentment (Eph 3:20) - regardless of the circumstances of life, Philip 4:12-14; Psa 23:1; 84:10.
